The Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) occurs over much of North America from southern Canada to central Mexico. It inhabits woodlands and meadows, feeding on milkweed plants. While not affected themselves by the toxin in milkweed sap, any creatures that eat these butterflies become severely ill, and learn to avoid them!!!

A Honeybee loading up on pollen... Inasmuch as the hexagonal canvas was the same shape as a honeycomb cell, a bee seemed to apt subject matter for the painting,
