These Chondricthyan (cartilagineous) fish are most closely related to sharks and rays. They use their barbed snouts (24 barbs on each side) to hack (chop) through schools of fish before devouring their prey, Sawfish occur in tropical & subtropical (sometimes temperate) waters (generally shallow along coastlines) occasionally swimming into freshwater rivers.
